MagpieCRM is open source under AGPL-3.0. It ships as one Docker image that listens on port 3000 and keeps its data in a single JSON file on a volume. Add a SocialFetch key, an email provider and an email verifier, and every feature runs on a server you control.

Up and running in four steps.

Generate a secret
Run openssl rand -hex 32 for TRACKING_SECRET. Set it once and keep it: it signs your tracking and unsubscribe links.
Start the container
Run the image with a volume for your data, and AUTH_EMAIL and AUTH_PASSWORD for the first sign-in.
Add an email provider
Open the app on port 3000 and set up sending in Settings, then Sending. Until you do, emails are only logged, not sent.
Connect a verifier
In Settings, then Email verification, add your verification server's URL and secret. It needs outbound port 25, or proxies.

Your team

Add users with an email and password in Settings, then Team and login. There are no seat fees.

Pinned releases

Run a version tag rather than latest, and upgrade when you choose. A new version reads the previous version's data.

One file to back up

Your data is a single JSON file, with uploaded images next to it. Back up the volume and you have everything.

Open source

AGPL-3.0: use, change and run it for any purpose, including commercially. Offer a changed version as a hosted service and you must publish your changes.

What it doesn't do yet.

MagpieCRM is early access software, at version 0.9.23. So you know before you start:

Users have no roles or permissions yet: everyone can do everything.
The app doesn't set up SPF or DKIM for you. You do that with your email provider.
There's no one-click export of the whole account. Export contacts, lists, companies and deals one at a time.

What does self-hosting cost?

MagpieCRM itself is free. You pay for your server, your SocialFetch credits, your email provider, and the servers or proxies your email verifier runs on.

What server do I need?

Anything that runs Docker and keeps a persistent volume. For email verification, the verification server or its proxies need outbound port 25, which most cloud providers block.

How do I upgrade?

Pull a newer version tag and restart the container. A new version reads the previous version's data, and there's no migration command to run. Back up the volume first.

Is the self-hosted version the same as Cloud?

It's the same app. On Magpie Cloud, prospect data, email verification, sending and updates are handled for you. Self-hosted, you connect your own and apply updates yourself.
