Why do teams look for a Mautic alternative?

Teams look for a Mautic alternative when they need less automation and more outreach. Mautic is built for marketing to people you already know: subscribers, leads and website visitors. It nurtures them with flows that react to what they do.

A small B2B team often starts one step earlier. It needs to:

  • Find people. Search for companies and contacts that match a target customer.
  • Get a working email. Check each address before sending to it.
  • Follow up and close. Send a few emails, stop when someone replies, then track the deal.

MagpieCRM is built around that job. It is not a replacement for Mautic's automation. We checked every Mautic fact on this page on 12 October 2026, using Mautic's own website, docs and code repository.

How much do Mautic and MagpieCRM cost?

Mautic is free to download and use, according to the Mautic download page. You pay for your own server and your email sending service.

Hosted Mautic is sold by a partner, not by the Mautic project. The Mautic pricing page lists managed plans from Dropsolid, which it calls its official trials and hosting partner. Mautic Essential starts from €247.50 a month on annual billing, or €275 a month billed quarterly. It covers up to 50,000 contacts and 50,000 emails a month. Mautic Professional starts from €1,237 a month. There is a 14-day free trial.

On Magpie Cloud you pay for usage: £0.004 per prospect credit (1 for each prospect a search shows you)$0.006 per prospect credit (1 for each prospect a search shows you), 1 prospect credit (£0.004)1 prospect credit ($0.006) per verified email reveal and £0.15 per 1,000$0.25 per 1,000 emails sent. You choose a monthly allowance of each, paid up front, from £10/month$15/month:

  • 50,000 emails sent a month comes to £7.50 on Magpie Cloud, within the £10 monthly minimum50,000 emails sent a month comes to $12.50 on Magpie Cloud, within the $15 monthly minimum.
  • 1,000 prospects found, 600 verified email reveals and 25,000 emails sent a month comes to £10.15 on Magpie Cloud (1,600 prospect credits and the emails)1,000 prospects found, 600 verified email reveals and 25,000 emails sent a month comes to $15.85 on Magpie Cloud (1,600 prospect credits and the emails).

Unused allowance does not roll over. Self-hosted MagpieCRM is free, and you pay your data and email providers directly. The two hosted services are not like for like: managed Mautic includes far more marketing features.

MagpieCRM vs Mautic: feature comparison

Mautic has far more marketing features than MagpieCRM. MagpieCRM covers prospecting and deals, which Mautic leaves to other tools. The table puts them side by side. Mautic details come from its website and docs. "Not listed" means we found no such feature on Mautic's features page or in the docs we read.

The main difference is the starting point. A Mautic campaign starts from a segment or a form, and flows move those contacts along. MagpieCRM starts from a search: you find people, email them, and track the deals that follow.

Where is Mautic stronger than MagpieCRM?

Mautic is stronger at marketing automation, by a wide margin. Its Campaign Builder is a canvas where you drag and drop actions, decisions and conditions. A campaign can start from a segment or a form. It can then branch on whether a contact opens an email, clicks a link, visits a page, submits a form or replies.

  • Segments. Mautic's lead management page describes segmenting contacts by behaviour, demographics and engagement.
  • Point scoring. Points go up or down as contacts act. A trigger can then add them to a campaign or segment.
  • Landing pages and forms. The Mautic features page lists a landing page builder, a form builder and web tracking.
  • A/B tests. Segment emails can be tested on a slice of the audience before the winner goes to the rest.
  • SMS. Text messages go out through a transport such as Twilio, as a step in a campaign, according to the SMS docs.
  • Integrations. Mautic has a REST API, webhooks and a marketplace of community plugins, according to its integrations page.

Mautic is the better fit if:

  • You need welcome series, nurture flows or other automated journeys.
  • You score leads, or segment by behaviour on your website.
  • You want landing pages, A/B tests or SMS in the same tool.

MagpieCRM is early access software, at version 0.9.41. It has no automated flows, SMS, A/B tests or event-based segments yet. A campaign goes to one list.

What do you get with MagpieCRM?

MagpieCRM gives small B2B teams, founders and agencies one open source tool to find verified contacts and email them. Here is what the app includes today, at version 0.9.41:

  • Prospect search. Search companies by keyword, industry, headcount and country, and people by title, seniority, country and keyword.
  • Verified emails. Each email is checked with the company's mail server. Only verified emails are saved by default.
  • Campaigns and sequences. Build campaigns with drag and drop or a template, and track opens and clicks. Send plain-text sequences that stop when a person replies, unsubscribes or bounces.
  • Deals and pipelines. Track deals on a drag-and-drop board, with a value, owner and close date.
  • Forms and surveys. Collect sign-ups through forms or an API, and run surveys with branching.
  • AI. A copilot on your own Anthropic or OpenAI key, and an MCP server for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and the OpenAI Codex CLI.

A MagpieCRM sequence is much simpler than a Mautic campaign. It is a fixed run of emails with one rule: stop when the person replies, unsubscribes or bounces. Mautic can build similar follow-ups as a flow, and far more complex ones.

How does self-hosting compare?

Mautic installs on a PHP web stack. The Mautic requirements page lists PHP, MySQL or MariaDB, and Apache, Nginx or IIS. PostgreSQL is not on it. The download page recommends a VPS over shared hosting. Mautic is released under the GPL v3.

Mautic also needs scheduled jobs. Its cron job docs list jobs to update segments, update campaigns and trigger campaign events.

MagpieCRM runs as one Docker container, with its data in a single JSON file on a volume. There is no separate database. Prospect search and email verification need more setup: your own SocialFetch key, an email provider, and a verification server with outbound port 25. The self-hosting guide has the steps.

How do you use MagpieCRM with Mautic?

You use MagpieCRM with Mautic by splitting the work: outbound in MagpieCRM, nurture in Mautic. There is no built-in sync between them. Mautic imports contacts from CSV and exports them to CSV, according to its contact docs, and MagpieCRM does too.

  1. Search for companies and people in MagpieCRM, and reveal their verified work emails.
  2. Send a campaign or a short sequence, and track the deals that follow on the pipeline board.
  3. Export the contacts who asked to hear more from MagpieCRM to CSV.
  4. Import the CSV into Mautic, and add those contacts to a segment and a campaign.
  5. Keep unsubscribes in step by hand. An opt-out in one tool is not passed to the other.
