Forms and surveys

Grow your list, then ask it questions.

Put a sign-up form on your site, or send sign-ups from your own form to the API. Then run surveys with skip logic, so each person only sees the questions that apply to them. Answers can be saved on the contact, and a rating or NPS question can be answered inside the email.

A sign-up form that adds to a list, and a survey that only asks the follow-up when it applies.

Sign-up forms

Sign-up forms, and an API for your own.

Build a form in MagpieCRM, then copy its embed code into your site. Each sign-up becomes a contact on the list you choose.

Already have a form? Post each sign-up to /api/subscribe with an API key from Settings, then Signup forms and API.

  • Pick the fields: first name, last name, email, company and message
  • Save sign-ups to a new or existing list, and choose which fields go on the contact
  • Send a welcome email a few minutes after sign-up, with their name in it
  • See every submission on the form's page
  • Make as many named API keys as you need, and revoke any of them

Surveys

Twelve question types, with skip logic.

Start blank or from a starter survey: NPS with a follow-up, customer satisfaction, product feedback, event feedback or lead qualification.

Question types

Short and long text, email, number, date, single and multiple choice, dropdown, rating, NPS, scale, and yes or no.

Skip logic

Rules on each page send people to another page, or to the end, based on their answers. Combine conditions with all or any.

Pages and content

Split a survey into pages, and add headings, text, images and dividers between questions. Add a progress bar and a Back button.

Answers on the contact

Map a question to a built-in or custom contact field, filled every time or only when it's empty.

Options per question

Make questions required, add an Other choice, shuffle the options, and set minimum and maximum selections or lengths.

Open and close

Surveys are checked for problems before they're published. Close one by hand or on a date, and reopen it later.

Sharing

Five ways to share a survey.

WayHow it works
LinkA public page anyone can open, no account needed
QR codeDownload it as PNG or SVG for print. Answers are counted as coming from the QR code
EmbedAn iframe for your site that resizes itself to fit the survey
Signed-in usersYour server asks for a personal link for a user's email, valid for 24 hours, so answers go on the right contact
In an emailAdd a Survey block to a campaign and each recipient gets a personal link. A first question that's a rating, NPS, scale, yes or no, or single choice with up to 6 options can be answered in the email

Results

See what people said.

  1. Summary

Started, completed, completion rate, median time, and where people drop off, page by page.

  2. Each question

A chart or statistics for every question, so you can read the answers at a glance.

  3. Each response

Read, export or delete single responses. Partial answers are saved, and people can pick up where they left off.

Not yet

What it doesn't do yet.

MagpieCRM is early access software, at version 0.9.23. So you know before you start:

  • The sign-up API always adds people to the default list. Forms can choose their list.
  • Forms have five fixed fields. Custom fields can't be added to a form yet.
  • Embedded forms have no captcha yet.
  • Once a survey has responses, duplicate it to change its questions.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Do people need an account to answer a survey?

No. Anyone with the link can answer. If the survey has an Email question, MagpieCRM can use it to match the answers to a contact, and can add new respondents to a list.

How does answering in the email work?

Add a Survey block to a campaign. If the survey's first question is a rating, NPS, scale, yes or no, or single choice with up to 6 options, recipients click their answer in the email. It's saved straight away, and they carry on with the rest of the survey.

Where do the answers go?

Every response is on the survey's Responses tab, with a summary and an export. Questions mapped to contact fields also save the answer on the contact, where you can use it as a merge tag.

How does the sign-up API work?

Send a POST request to /api/subscribe with your API key in the X-API-Key header. Email and first name are required; last name and company are optional. The person is added to your default list.
