Email campaigns
Design an email, send it to a list, see who opened.
Build a campaign in the drag-and-drop builder or start from a design, personalise it with contact fields, test it, then send it now or schedule it. Opens and clicks come back for each campaign, with clicks from email security scanners filtered out.

October product update
Scheduled · Tue 09:30Hi {{contact.first_name}}, here's what's new this month.
Drag blocks into the email, add contact fields, then schedule the send.
The builder
A drag-and-drop builder with real email blocks.
Every design is built from blocks that render in the inbox. Preview it on desktop and mobile as you go.
Everyday blocks
Title, text, image, button, logo, divider, spacer, social links, navigation bar and footer, plus raw HTML when you need it.
Layout and styles
Split rows, columns and section cards. Page styles set the width, colours, links, line height and buttons. Or edit the HTML source directly.
Richer blocks
Product grids, article cards, order receipts, notification lists, dynamic content, and a video block that links to the video.
Starter designs
Editorial newsletter, link digest, product drop, sale announcement, welcome and onboarding, and password reset.
Saved templates
Save any design as a template. Rename, duplicate or edit it, and start the next campaign from it.
Surveys in the email
Add a Survey block and each recipient gets a personal link. A rating, NPS, scale or yes/no question can be answered in the email itself.
How it works
From a draft to a scheduled send.
Set up
Name the campaign, pick a sender and a list, and write the subject line and preview text.
Personalise
Add merge tags for first name, last name, company and email, or any custom field, such as {{ contact.custom.plan }}.
Test
Preview the email as one of your contacts, and send tests to any addresses, filled in with that contact's details.
Send or schedule
Send now, or pick a date and time. You can unschedule it, and a send cut short by a restart carries on where it stopped.
The rules
Unsubscribes, bounces and tracking, handled.
Gmail and Yahoo expect bulk senders to offer a one-click unsubscribe and to stop emailing people who bounce or complain. MagpieCRM does both. The unsubscribe link is on by default, and always on with Magpie Cloud's sending.
- A personal unsubscribe link at the bottom, unless your design already has one
- One-click List-Unsubscribe headers, so mail apps can show their own unsubscribe button
- A hard bounce or a spam complaint means that contact is never emailed again; a soft bounce only affects that campaign
- Only subscribed contacts on the list receive the campaign
- Open tracking can be turned off for each campaign; links are always tracked
Analytics
What each campaign reports.
Security scanners at many companies follow every link in an email as it arrives. A hidden link no person can see, plus timing rules, keeps those clicks and opens out of your numbers.
| Where | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Deliverability | Delivery rate, soft and hard bounces, and bounce rate |
| Opens | Open rate, total opens, first opens over time, and who opened |
| Clicks | Click-to-open rate, clicks on each link, and who clicked |
| Unsubscribes | Unsubscribe rate and spam complaints |
| Recipients | Everyone, or only those who opened, clicked, didn't open, bounced or unsubscribed, with CSV or Excel export |
| Analytics page | Recipients, opens, clicks, unsubscribes, complaints and bounces for every campaign over a date range |
Not yet
What it doesn't do yet.
MagpieCRM is early access software, at version 0.9.23. So you know before you start:
- No sequences or automated flows yet: each campaign is one send.
- A campaign goes to one list. To email a smaller group, save those contacts to their own list.
- No A/B tests yet.
- The builder has no undo of its own. The copilot can undo the changes it made.
FAQ
Questions, answered.
How much does sending cost?
On Magpie Cloud, £0.15 per 1,000 emails sent, with no per-contact fees. Self-hosted, MagpieCRM is free and you pay your own email provider.
Which email providers can I use when self-hosting?
Nine: generic SMTP, Amazon SES, Postmark, Resend, SendGrid, Mailgun, Brevo, Mailchimp Transactional and Cloudflare. You set one up in Settings, then Sending. Until you do, emails are only logged, not sent.
How do I send from my own domain on Magpie Cloud?
Add your domain in Settings, then Sending, and copy the DNS records it shows you: the DKIM records, an ownership TXT record and, ideally, DMARC. Email goes out from your domain once it's ready.
How accurate are open rates?
Treat them as a guide. Scanner opens are filtered out, but Apple Mail loads every image as mail arrives, which can't be told apart from a real open. Open tracking can also be turned off for a campaign, for example where you don't have consent for it.
